For every tree we use we grow 3 more
Our Campaign for Trees is something we are very passionate about as a company and we hope you are too.
The campaign has grown out of our commitment to grow three trees for every one we use. This means you can enjoy all the softness you love in a toilet tissue, yet also have the reassurance that you are helping to grow trees for the future.
Caring for the forests
At Velvet we are committed to the environment and responsible forestry practices and plant over one million saplings every year, only using pulp from responsible sources. This allows every pack of Velvet to carry the FSC stamp of approval. The FSC certification scheme is the only one supported by major environmental groups such as Greenpeace and WWF.
Growing trees in Brazil
Velvet supports various tree-planting projects around the world, including a reforestation project in Brazil where, in the first 3 years we are committed to planting 3 million trees. "We’re planting forests where trees were removed in the past to make way for pasture land," explains Stewart Begg, Environmental Manager for SCA tissue in Europe. "We’re growing a variety of different domestic tree species, including Parica, Tambori, Freijo and Cedro. We planted the first seedlings in Para State in October 2008. Since then we have planted more than a million trees in this area of the Amazon basin."
Forest friendly toilet tissue
SCA, the company which makes Velvet toilet tissue, has a responsibility to ensure the best possible environmental practices in the production of Velvet without compromising on product quality. We are committed to responsible forestry practices and in our own forests, we plant 80 million saplings every year to ensure that each and every tree we use is replaced by three new ones. Here at Velvet we follow this forestry best practice by supporting various tree-planting initiatives worldwide and only using pulp from responsible sources, which allows us to use the FSC Mixed Sources certification.
Green approval
SCA’s high social and environmental standards have made them one of the 100 most sustainable companies in the world (Innovest Strategic Value Advisors 2008).
SCA was also recently ranked as the second greenest company in the world and the number one tissue paper company. (The Independent and Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRS) June 2007)
In January 1999 SCA was certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and now every Velvet pack carries the FSC stamp of approval. The FSC certification scheme is the only one supported by major environmental groups such as Greenpeace and WWF.
